From Product Brief to Ingredient Shortlist

A precise brief reduces back-and-forth and makes ingredient comparisons more useful. It does not need to be long, but it should separate essential requirements from preferences.

1. Define the commercial context

Share the destination market, finished-product category, intended positioning and target launch window. Regulatory and documentation needs vary by jurisdiction, so the market should be identified early.

2. Describe the dosage form and process

State the proposed format, approximate use level, solubility or dispersibility needs, sensory constraints and important processing conditions. Where information is still open, flag it as a question rather than an assumption.

3. List the required evidence

Identify the specification fields, batch documents, statements and sample quantities needed for internal review. If a particular test method or limit is mandatory, include it in the request.

4. Review, sample and validate

Use the shortlist to compare like with like. Review current documents, evaluate a representative sample where available and complete formulation, stability, safety and regulatory checks appropriate to the product.
